Artist Teacher Exhibition: Color Stories

The Artist Teacher Exhibition: Color Stories opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 11, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the Workhouse Arts Center.

This year’s exhibition features 78 art faculty from 61 FCPS schools, showcasing the incredible range and creativity of our artist teachers.

Color Stories celebrates the power of color — how it can evoke memory, emotion, and narrative, or simply be downright visually delicious! This exhibition is a vibrant tribute to the artistry and dedication of our educators. The show is on display until December 6th.

If you are attending the VAEA conference later in the month, come to our Educator’s reception on Oct. 16th, 5-7 pm.  The Art Center is also open throughout the conference:  Thurs-Fri, 10 am- 5 pm, Sat. 10 am- 4 pm, and Sunday 12-4 pm.

I am so tickled to have two mixed media pieces in this show. If you are in the Virginia Beach area please stop into the Art Center to enjoy the stellar skills of art teachers!

#22...Gaining Inspiration..

As I prepared to begin another school year, nice even year 22,  I had the total pleasure of taking off to NYC for a day trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. I went with my clever and intrepid studio art department friends!
It was awesome to see the work of Diane Arbus: In The Beginning in the new Met Breuer as well as the Thoughts Left Unfinished a thorough and beautiful exhibition of artwork that remain unfinished by their makers beginning from the Renaissance to now.

Our studio art department has grown this year! We are so lucky to have four in our little department!
To celebrate we headed down to Richmond to enjoy the Kehinde Wiley A New Republic as well as the Gordon Parks: Back to Fort Scott exhibitions.

If these short inspirational jaunts are any indication, it is destined to be fabulous school year!
