Let me introduce you (ongoing series)

Let me introduce you to Mrs. Cho, she is new to the art department at Bonnie Brae Elementary school. Most recenlty she taught art and 4th grade in Korea, we are so lucky she has returned to our county. Currently Mrs. Cho is really embracing the challenge of teaching in a pod space. It is a welcoming environment that inspires curious minds!

Impasto

This past weekend we went to the Reach on the Kennedy Center Campus to view the Portraits of Courage painted by George W. Bush. I was very taken with the impasto style found in several of the paintings. The thick strokes are simultaneously inviting and tormented.

  Let me introduce you to Mr. Navas, new photography teacher at Fairfax High School. Mr. Navas hales from James Madison University. He is inspired by the iconic portraits of Arnold Newman. Those Rebels are so lucky to have him developing the photography experience!

Let me introduce you to Ms. Dolmat, new art teacher at Hughes Middles School. Ms. Dolmat is a graduate of George Mason University. She is diving into the Pre-IB curriculum and the thought provoking inquiry that offers to her students. The students are so lucky to have you on board this year!  Fun fact: There is a chicken coop right outside her classroom door!

Recent Works Show this Weekend!

This weekend I have the honor of showing my work with some pretty amazing artist teachers! Please stop over to the Recent Works exhibition & sale at the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum. (11200 Fairfax Station Road)

It is Friday 4-9 pm & Saturday 1-8 pm. There will be many tasty treats to enjoy while you savor the visual delight of the artwork!

Artists featured this weekend are Elaine Florimonte, Keith Beale, Amy Bruce, Heather Dilatush, Debbie Glakas, Leslie O’Shaughnessy and me.

Let me introduce you to the newest member of Halley Elementary School art department, Ms. Sarmiento. She wants her students to know that she cares about them very much – that it’s ok to make mistakes in art, that all mistakes are simply new opportunities to become something else. So don’t be afraid about making mistakes - Be kind and be respectful always! Those elementary students are so lucky to have you on board this year!
