Face Value

           This past Saturday I went to a wonderful exhibition Face Value: Portraiture in the Age of Abstraction. We listened to the curator's talk at the National Portrait Gallery! I had the pleasure of going with the OHS Photo Club leaders: past, present & future!

The month of May presents challenges: senioritis, SOLs, beautiful weather...

The bell schedule is turned upside down, and the students

are feeling restless, I love to shake things up! This part of the school year presents opportunities for unusual and outlandish

photo shoots!

Thanks to Oliver Herring inspired by his sense of play through process, we

Cherry Blossom Sunrise

 

 

The OHS Photo Club went to see the sunrise while the Cherry Blossoms were in peak bloom! The Cherry Blossoms were especially beautiful this year... I am wondering if the snow and extra chill had a hand in those lovely trees that grace the Tidal Basin.

Emerging Visions: Complexities

Emerging Visions: Complexities

 

March 21-April 5, 2014 

 

Emerging Visions annually offers Fairfax County high school students the opportunity to work directly with Greater Reston Arts Center's curatorial staff to create competent artworks that will be exhibited in our gallery. Participating students from Herndon, Oakton and South Lakes High Schools have committed themselves to the success of this project and have worked hard to achieve their artistic endeavors. Many of the artists have focused their energies on projects that reflect complex issues, such as forgiveness and love. Some have worked collaboratively to address larger issues of environmental stewardship, identity, and memory. The gallery will be immersed in evocative drawings and paintings, energetic mixed media works and beautiful photography.

 

 

 

            My students were just ecstatic to participate again in this exciting opportunity! It was challenging with all the snow Mother Nature had thrown at us… getting the work made and keeping the momentum going.

 

 

 

The end result was a very solid body of artwork! This is such an awesome opportunity for the students to gain real world experience with how galleries work and what is to keep deadlines!

   The reception was very well attended and offered the students the experiences of seeing an audience interact with their work. They could also engage in conversation about their process. 

 

 

 

Soccer Season starts with a Goal!!!
