2014 has been an Artful year!

I have shown my work in five exhibitions this year!  And I am thrilled to be closing out the year by participating in this lovely little show. Constrained only by size...this promises to be a feast for the eyes!

Kodak & Muse are a waxing for the past. These artworks reconstruct and combine camera findings and doll pieces to reflect a longing for the past that has somehow become intertwined with my present.

The Works photograph captures the remains of a thread dye warehouse in Philadelphia, PA. The warehouse is currently being repurposed to new life with artist studios and entrepreneurial spaces. You may recognize this from previous posts.

Globe Dye Works!

This past Friday I had the pleasure of taking my students to Philadelphia for a day trip! We went to the Globe Dye Works warehouse nestled in the industrial part of the city. We learned about the history of the building and the renewed vision for the space.

We spent the day meeting with artists, bakers, entrepreneurs, coffee roasters and ice cream makers!

Seeing the industrial spaces reconstructed into work areas and studios was inspiring!

We even found American painter John Moore in his studio working on a painting inspired by the warehouse itself!

It is truly where art meets industry. Fraught with creativity, collaboration and makers' visions this is an up and coming location not to be missed!

The best part was watching the students drink in all the information and document the surroundings.

**It was lovely to spend a day with students that I have had the pleasure of teaching for four years!

Photo Phriends off to the Corcoran!

This past weekend my Photo Phriends and I met up to ride into town
to say farewell to the Corcoran Gallery.
The Corcoran is the oldest art museum, open the last 145 years with a
world class art collection!
Now, it will merge with the George Washington University and the
National Gallery of Art and begin a new chapter in its history.

The Loop was a favorite installation!

It was such a beautiful day we walked to the Lincoln Memorial looking for photo opportunities.

Many new photo phriendships were formed!

John M. Adams...Site Specific...GRACE...Member Show

This past week I had the pleasure of reconnecting with a very talented friend! John M. Adams contacted me to help him layout a site specific drawing at The Greater Reston Art Center for the Artist Member Exhibition.

I was thrilled to be an art assistant for the day. The  day was pretty much masking the area and checking measurements, creating the space where the drawing would exist. It was apparent that this would be an excellent time lapse opportunity documenting the process...now, I have never done this before, but knew we had the equipment and Rich had the experience...

So at the end of that  day, I went home...gathered all the necessary tools...and asked my husband for a little tutorial on the creation of a time lapse and setting all the cameras up. He was more than happy to oblige!

Please enjoy the video below...the result of a wonderful three days of cultivating creativity! 14,000ish images blended to demonstrate John's process. This time lapse also be on view at GRACE for the length of the show!

Greater Reston Arts Center Member Exhibition
July 17- August 23, 2014.
"Stuart's Draft" is a site-specific graphite drawing I designed and created in memory of my friend and mentor Stuart Downs (1950-2013, Poet, JMU Gallery Director and Professor of Museum Studies).  I hope you can join me at the opening reception to discuss the drawing and Stuart's influence on my artistic practice and life.

My site-specific drawings are temporary artworks requiring the viewer to be in a specific place at a specific time to truly experience the work. Strokes of graphite evoke plumes of smoke or light reflected  on the surface of water, keeping with the artwork's transitory nature. These components offer a metaphor for evolution - moving  the viewer through creation, existence, and eventual destruction.

***I loved this experience! A huge thanks to my patient & knowledgeable husband!***

Sunday

Off the Walls

Summer is officially in full swing! This is the time for me to get snapping on my own craft! I am showing my photography in Rockville at the Washington ArtWorks gallery alongside my dear friend & painter, Donna Sinclair and my incredibly talented father-in-law & pastel artist, Dick Silva!

My photographs are architectural silver gelatin photographs featuring iconic images in New York City and D.C. on a variety of warm and cool paper tones.  Donna Sinclair is showing her wonderfully abstracted paintings memories of the shore.

Dick Silva is featuring luscious pastels created from his observations while out and about town and travel!

Join us this Friday, July 11, 2014, as Washington ArtWorks opens “Off the Wall”, an exhibition featuring a variety of mediums, from over 40 Mid-Atlantic artists.  All artwork will be available to take home immediately upon sale, and will be replaced with work by the artist. This process allows for the exhibit to change regularly, so visitors are invited to visit the show continually through July to see new work.

This Friday there will be
appetizers and wine will be provided for participants and guests.
The address is
12276 Wilkins Avenue, Rockville, MD 20852.

The artwork posted here is just a taste of what is on view!
See you Friday!!!

Fireworks of the 4th of July!

Celebrating the 4th of July!
The key components to a fantastic night out..

Perfect weather,  cute kids (rocking patriotic apparel), food ,cool beverages
&
of course the camera!

The view was breathtaking! My friends are wizards at finding the perfect spot to view
the fireworks on the National Mall (without actually leaving Virginia)

As the sun began set it was apparent the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and the Capital Building were standing proud ready for the show!

Happy 4th of July my fellow patriots!
